Atmosphere

Cosón is the most remote and quietest part of Las Terrenas. Local real-estate guides describe it as an area of large plots, gated communities and private estates, with little shopping on site. A few hotels and beach restaurants line the shore; for almost everything else you go into town.

Beach

Playa Cosón stretches for about 6-7 km of sand, largely undeveloped and backed by coconut palms. Because it is so long, the actual distance between a home and the water varies a lot from one listing to the next, so ask before you visit.

Getting around

The beach lies roughly 6 km west of town. According to a local real-estate guide, villas are 10-20 minutes by car from the centre, so residents generally need a car (or a golf cart). Banks, pharmacies and the supermarket cluster in the centre on Calle Duarte, so plan a drive for every errand. Without your own vehicle, Cosón is impractical for a stay of several months.

Internet and electricity

"El Cosón" appears among the fibre-covered sectors on Claro's coverage list. Coverage is defined by sector rather than by house, so check with the landlord that the home is already connected or can be. Electricity in Las Terrenas is distributed by a private company, Luz y Fuerza de Las Terrenas, and the area has had outages caused by faults on the interconnection line that feeds it: ask whether the house has an inverter with batteries or a generator. Who is it for?

Cosón suits people looking for calm, space and a long, little-developed beach who don't mind driving for every errand: families with a car, restful long stays, remote workers who have checked the connection first. If you would rather do everything on foot, look at the town centre or Punta Popy.
