Atmosphere

The Dominican Republic's official tourism site presents Pueblo de los Pescadores as the hub of Las Terrenas nightlife: a pedestrian-only area facing Las Ballenas beach, with restaurants, bars and outdoor seating. It is the liveliest and noisiest part of town at night, with music playing late. Ideal for doing everything on foot, much less so if you want quiet.

Restaurants and bars

A long walkway links restaurants serving French, Italian, Spanish and Caribbean food with several bars. One online directory counts about 13 restaurants and 3 bars; treat the figure as indicative, since businesses change.

Beach

Pueblo de los Pescadores opens straight onto Las Ballenas, a long beach popular with families, with reefs for snorkelling.

Living here for 1 to 12 months

The big advantage is that almost everything is within walking distance: the beach, the restaurants and, a short way off, the shops and services of the centre on Calle Duarte. The trade-off is noise. Before signing, visit the home on a weekend evening, check which way the bedrooms face and ask whether there is air conditioning, which lets you sleep with the windows shut. If you work remotely, check the connection: "Las Terrenas Centro" is on Claro's list of fibre sectors, but coverage is confirmed address by address.

Electricity

Electricity is distributed by Luz y Fuerza de Las Terrenas, a private company, and the area has had outages caused by faults on the interconnection line. Ask whether the home has an inverter or a generator; our guide to electricity and power cuts explains why it matters.

Who is it for?

Singles or couples who want to go out, walk everywhere and do without a car. For families with young children or light sleepers, the residential area of Las Ballenas offers the same beach with more calm.
