What's included. The monthly rent for a studio may or may not include electricity, water, internet and cleaning. Ask for a written list of what is included. If electricity is extra, ask whether you pay by the meter of Luz y Fuerza de Las Terrenas, the local distributor, or a flat amount set by the landlord.
Internet for remote work. If you work online, ask what connection is installed, whether it is shared with other units and whether there is a fallback. Claro offers fibre in several sectors of Las Terrenas, and Starlink satellite internet has been available in the country since 2022. Expat guides (unverified) recommend a UPS for the router during power cuts. More in our guide to internet and remote work.
Backup power. There have been outages caused by faults on the line that feeds Las Terrenas. Ask whether the studio is connected to an inverter or a generator, and which appliances keep working during a cut.
Equipment. If it is furnished, check the kitchen, the bed, the fans or air conditioning, and ask for an inventory with photos. Our guide to furnished or unfurnished rentals helps you compare.
Location. Without a car, a studio in the town centre or near Pueblo de los Pescadores lets you do almost everything on foot; in outlying areas such as Cosón, a car is close to essential.
High season. From December to April, demand for short stays and prices usually rise: if your dates are flexible, compare.
Deposit. Law 85-25 caps the deposit for a home at two months' rent. Pay nothing before you have seen the studio, and never by money transfer, gift cards or crypto.
